Do not choose I-698 simply because the goal is permanent residence; most present-day adjustment cases use other processes, commonly Form I-485 when applicable. Locate the records establishing the temporary status and program basis, keep names and registration numbers consistent with the older file, and follow the current lockbox and payment instructions. Because this is a narrow legacy pathway, qualified immigration counsel may be appropriate when the record or eligibility basis is uncertain.

Create a continuous timeline from the original legalization application through the temporary resident grant and every later notice. Resolve gaps in residence, identity variations, travel, tax records, and any criminal or immigration events before submission. The supporting history, not merely possession of an old card, must fit the particular section 245A adjustment framework.
